You can’t force yourself to be healthy. You have to find a real healthy way of working out. When I was a kid, my dad used to do the elliptical thing and he would lift weights on the elliptical machine. He would go on these long elliptical walks and he would train his body to do better lifts. When I was a teenager, I would go to my gym and lift weights. I never really got very serious about it.
I have to admit that I haven’t been very serious about lifting weights either. I’ve only been lifting for a few years, and I have to say I’m not looking forward to getting serious about it anymore. This weekend I worked out with my friend, Chris, and he put me through a few sets of 10×10 pull ups. He told me that at my current level of fitness I could probably drop into the pool without any effort whatsoever. I could never do that.
I’m really not sure that I have ever lifted for longer than that. I know I’ve done a few pull ups in my day, but I’ve never been serious about it. I’ve only been lifting for a few years and I’ve been working out with some friends who are also pretty serious about it. It will be interesting to see how serious I’ll be getting when I’m actually serious about weight lifting.

Well, I suppose I could say we all have our own personal definition of “serious” when it comes to weight lifting. If you know that you’ve been training regularly, you’re likely to be a regular lifter. However, if you’re not, then you shouldn’t be lifting.
